1066, Tears to Many Mothers - RFY / WFY
Historical card games that make you want to go read about history? What?! It’s true, though. The superlative artwork and engaging head-to-head gameplay of 1066, Tears to Many Mothers may make you want to crack open a book and read about the Battle of Hastings.
My Little Scythe - RFY / WFY
Need something new to play with the kids? Well, maybe My Little Scythe will hit the spot. It’s a family-friendly gaming experience that takes some of the mechanisms of Scythe and infuses them into the surreal pie-tastic Kingdom of Pomme.
Pendulum - RFY / WFY
Pendulum is a curious creature of real-time spatial awareness and clever worker placement. It’s definitely a mind-burner but it’s got some innovative gameplay to show for it.
A War of Whispers - RFY / WFY
Now on its 2nd edition, with Collector’s content and extra cards, A War of Whispers is stronger in gameplay and design than it’s been in the past. Today, I look at whether it’s right for you or wrong for you.
Bloodborne – First Impressions
Bloodborne bled onto the board game scene in 2016 with a light- to mid-weight card game, but CMON dragged the video game into the dark Yharnam light with a grand-scale board game this year. Here are my first impressions of this tile-laying dark slayer’s chronicle.
My Little Scythe – First Impressions
Games to play with my kids are more important now that my son is older. So, as a fan of Scythe, I was definitely interested to see what My Little Scythe accomplished in terms of translating that grand strategy game into a more accessible title.

Air, Land, & Sea – First Impressions
What games do a lot with a little? For me, Air, Land, & Sea is a fine example of condensed design with fantastic execution. It’s one that I’ll be adding to my collection as soon as possible.
Fluttering Souls – First Impressions
A small-box breeze that plays with whimsy and takes no time at all. Fluttering Souls is a small appetizer before the bigger titles from Good Games Publishing but it does its job well.
Dice Throne Adventures – First Impressions
The cooperative campaign expansion Dice Throne Adventures made it to backers at the end of the year, and it’s been an exciting game to bring to the table. Here are my first impressions.
Oros – First Impressions
Oros will likely be one of my most anticipated games of the year. An upcoming Kickstarter from Brandt Brinkerhoff and Aesc Games, it’s a tile-shifting delight for strategy and puzzle fans.
Unfair – First Impressions
Unfair is the modular theme park builder that you never knew you wanted. Or maybe you did. But regardless of whatever you were thinking, this is a chunky little tableau-builder with a small footprint and a big bite.
Fossilis – First Impressions
Kids Table Board Gaming makes paleontology sexy in Fossilis, the dino-bone digging game from David Diaz. Oh, it’s also fun! Here are my first impressions.
Funfair- RFY / WFY
If you want to build a theme park, then Funfair is how you’ll do it. But if you want it to have the tallest and best attractions, then you’ll have to compete with the other park builders around the table!

Spades is one of my favorite card games, so I’ve been interested to see how The Crew takes the trick-taking mechanism and creates an addicting cooperative experience at the table. Thomas Sing has made an exciting game in a very small package.

There are a lot of fans of Honey Buzz, the latest game from Paul Salomon and Elf Creek Games. Have you played this worker-placement? I discuss my first impressions of this bee-utiful game.
