List Day - 5 Furniture Pieces From Kickstarter For Board Gamers
This is the day you don’t skip at the tabletop gym because you don’t want your lists to look all scrawny and weak. It’s so unattractive when lists are neglected while everything else is robust and muscular…
That’s why we’re going to pump our lists full of Kickstarter convos, board game paraphernalia, and all of the other tabletop-adjacent talk that gets the Internet into a tizzy. Enjoy.
Everybody knows by now that you can buy a board game table. They are on Kickstarter all of the time and they look amazing.
Oh, you want to play board games? Only peasants use tables! The people who know how to get things done play on inset felt mats, surrounded by waterproof removable leaves, accompanied by hanging component trays, stainless steel cup holders, and DM mini-desks. These gorgeous creations are ringed by LED lights, powered by a subtle plug-in, and literally hum with tabletop energy.
Do they also cost $1500? Yes, but that’s why we have credit cards and crushing regret. Those solve the fiscal problem.
For anyone who wants to look outside the box for their furniture solutions and board game setup, though, we’ve got you covered.
Transformer Table 3.0
I know what you’re thinking: “Where am I going to find a table that starts off at 2ft and ends at 32ft? Look no further! The Transformer Table 3.0 collection is here and it’s ravenous, rapturous, and downright ridiculous (in a good way).
You can change what games you play just by extending the table further. Start off with Go Fish!, then move to Catan, migrate to Dead of Winter, and then finish up with Twilight Imperium 4th Edition and Eclipse: Second Dawn for the Galaxy on the same table. It could all fit… probably.
Play games when it’s a bench. Play games when it’s a coffee table. Play games when it’s a dining table. This really is a Transformer table. The only thing that’s missing is a hapless teenager and some Decepticons. The good thing is if you find either or both of those, you can fit them on or at this table.
What would you play on the Transformer Table 3.0? And, more importantly, would you buy it over a traditional board game table?
BOOKNITURE
It’s a book. But not really. It’s furniture hidden inside of a book.
That’s right. You’re not really erudite. You’re a boardgamer who is bringing the table to the game—wherever the game happens to be. With BOOKNITURE, you can now bring your microgames and a small table to play them on. To be fair, there are plenty of microgames that are still going to be difficult to fit on the small footprint (bookprint?) of this clever furniture design, but you could do it!
If there is an avid War card player out there, this is all you need. But the industrious gamer will realize that if you buy multiple BOOKNITURE products, then you can set up a table and chairs on-the-go. All you need is a backpack large enough to carry all of the “books” and then you can start playing.
Bonus points to the reader who can think of the most tabletop games that can feasibly be played on BOOKNITURE.
The Floyd Leg
For the enterprising gamer out there, you can now turn any flat surface into a table. Don’t have enough space for Star Wars: Rebellion on your dining table? Don’t fret. Just get out your reciprocating saw, carve out a nice chunk of drywall from a little-used room in your house, and set up the perfect play area with the Floyd Leg, a set of tightening legs that can clamp down on whatever tabletop you find and create an instant masterpiece.
Want to get in the mood during a game of Klask? Simply rip your door off the hinges and strap on those Floyd Legs.
Itching to get a game of Arkham Horror in but only have a sheet of plyboard dumped on the floor? Floyd Leg!
Shower curtain? Floyd Leg!
Okay, maybe that last one won’t work, but this is a pretty ingenious way of making a table out of not much. If you can’t DIY this, then you will have no hope of setting up the D&D campaign before your friends come over…
Meyou
Yeah, I know. You can’t really play games on these pieces of furniture. They’re not even human furniture. They’re little abodes for your furry friends.
But hear me out. How many times have your furry friends gotten in the way of your board game? How many times have the cats taken over the table? How much more can you take?!
If you buy the Meyou fe-line of products, then you can give your purring overlord a place to recline and nap that won’t interfere with the latest game of Pandemic Legacy.
This is purr-fect. You should buy it right meow. It’s the cat’s pajamas. Or at least the cat’s house.
Nugget
It’s called the Nugget. And it’s a microfiber suede-encased foam sofa for kids. But, throw the kids out (figuratively, of course), and you’ve got yourself a modular board game table.
The possibilities are endless—big table, wider big table, longer big table, big table with foam triangles on either end.
On a more serious note, though, if you want to ditch the regular table accommodations for a change, this could actually be a nice way of crashing in the living room, den, or wherever to have an unorthodox game night.
Come for the games. Stay for the fort-building foam sofa.
