One Quack at a Time - January 4th

A place to talk about the weekly goings-on in the world of Quackalope. This is the Monday rundown on the tabletop news you’ve missed, the board game goodies coming up, and all of the duck-related sense and nonsense that keeps us up at night churning out content for you good folk!

What You’ve Missed

Well, the holidays have passed and, with them, so have many of the family gatherings (however reduced or remote this year) and other time obligations that kept us indoors and busy for much of the day. School is returning in full force, which means the kids are leaving the houses (or returning to their laptops).

And we’ve finally been able to say goodbye to the dumpster fire that was 2020. While there were definitely some highlights this past year for Quackalope (20,000 subs and a red-hot podcast burning into your ears), it will be nice to see what good things come as we usher in 2021.

The cold is still here. But fowl weather never stopped us.; Thankfully, the ducks and the geese are raring to get going. Without further ado, here’s the Monday rundown.

With one year ending and another year beginning, Jesse looks at his best games of 2020, disappointing games in 2020, and exciting games to look forward to in 2021.

We’ve got another full week of Quackalope blog writing in the books, so check out the Quack-staff’s favorite games of 2020, first impressions of the Tomesaga expansion for the West Kingdom trilogy, a Right for You / Wrong for You review of Terraforming Mars (Digital Edition), and the second entry of a flash-fiction series that follows the journey of a man looking for answers to the mysterious world of tabletop roleplaying.

I’ll keep pushing out articles to lure in your tabletop-sensitive eyes…

No matter how hard the past, you can always quack again.

What’s Quacking This Week

The Quackalope Blog

Another week brings more writing to you like a soft goose down comforter…

List day will feature Kickstarter furniture that I want to play board games on. And, no, all of them won’t be board game tables.

On Wednesday, I explore my first impressions (kinda) of the West Kingdom trilogy, now that it’s been completed with the release of Viscounts.

Right for You / Wrong for You will dive into the digital adaptation of Gloomhaven. It’s still in Early Access, so a full campaign is out of the question, but the Asmodee Digital game has a lot to offer players who are interested in the most popular RPG in a box. Most notably, it’s no longer in a box. It’s on a computer.

And Friday will be a look at five RPG experiences that are worth checking out—for both newcomers and veteran RPG players.

YouTube

Jesse is collaborating with Alex from BoardGameCo on some videos and there are other goodies coming down the pipeline!

The Quackalope Podcast

If you still haven’t heard the holiday episode of The Weekly Quack, be sure to give it a listen for us. It’s really a top-notch production.

Other Media

Look for us on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms as we engage with the community, talk about the latest industry news, and stay connected with all the other quacks out there in the world!

In our perfect ways. In the ways we are beautiful. In the ways we are ducks. We are here. Happy New Year’s. Let’s make it a Quackalope year.

Where’s Jesse

Jesse is still in Kentucky. But that doesn’t mean the road trip is not happening. Alex from BoardGameCo made the drive to see the ducking man himself in Kentucky.

So the collaborations are ongoing! There may not be a passenger-seat video to show for it, but the good work continues.

If I was good at Photoshop—or if I owned it—then I would have Alex’s and Jesse’s face pasted onto the map. I need someone that’s good at that kind of stuff.

For last year’s words belong to last year’s language. And next year’s ducks await another goose.

What is the Quackalope Staff up to?

Devon still hasn’t finished The Last of Us Part II. It’s even more intense than it was earlier. He’s also started The Flight Attendant, which seems compelling. And he needs to keep watching How To with John Wilson because that was hilarious. After Gloomhaven, there are some new games on the shelf of opportunity—Dune: Imperium, Honey Buzz, Sorcerer City, and Black Angel.

Jesse is back at it with lots of videos. He’s even started another YouTube channel that features vlogs all about affirming life. Check it out!

Jan, Dan, and Will are chilling out, maxing, relaxing all cool. Because that’s how they roll.

The Quack-verse is waking up from holiday slumber. Come see what’s cooking in the kitchen. I smell bacon and the ducks are all hungry.

Thanks for checking in with us! Be sure to join us this week as we unleash board game news, reviews, conversation, and more!

Devon Norris

Devon Norris lives in Texas, and he's not sure how he feels about that. When he's not gaming or procrastinating, he's finding other ways to avoid work. If he listed all his interests, it'd be a long sentence that you wouldn't want to finish reading. If you play on any console, maybe you can hear his frustrated cries through your headset.
