Supporting your local game store!

Quackalope is creating media for your FLGS!

The Quackalope team is working to partner with your local game shops. We believe game communities are built on the back of local family stores. We want to support them with FREE photo, video, and instructional content designed to help them learn about and share new games. We plan to produce a weekly media package packed to the brim with resources they can use from 60s video adds to play on their store TV’s to custom training videos to introduce them to the high’s and lows of new games arriving on their shelves! This program will be custom built to fit your favorite FLGS and help grow communities all across the world! To get involved sign up for our email list & to learn more, Scroll down!

Quackalope’s Retail Marketing Program

Designed alongside retailers and publishers. Directed by YOU.

“Every game store would benefit from this. Every owner would benefit from this. Every publisher would benefit from this. Every customer would benefit from this. The community would benefit from this.”

“Having professional product photos and videos that we could use on our web store and for social media marketing would be amazing. I frequently hear the same request from other retailers too.”

“I believe Quackalope could bridge that gap with their knowledge, experience, earnestness, and ability to communicate why a particular game should be purchased immediately.”

  • To Whom It May Concern:

I am a small game store owner in Elmhurst, Illinois. I took over my current location from a man that was running it primarily as a card store, and I have transformed it into a thriving game store as well. We did not have any direction or assistance in learning how to properly sell games. To this point, my daughter and I have spent most of our days off running through the large number of games to become versed enough to be able to sell them to our community, which is mostly made up of people who did not know things existed outside of Monopoly, etc. We started playing Jesse's videos in store daily for the past few years, and I can honestly say they have largely assisted in grabbing the shopper's attention. I have been communicating with Jesse to figure out ways to make games more accessible to communities, as I am sure I am not the only person that wants the knowledge to pass along to customers.

The service that Jesse is attempting to start would be highly beneficial to store owners and their customers alike. Having the ability to have myself, my staff, and the families we service to watch a short informative video on a game is incredible. Being able to know what a game is all about prior to release, quickly being able to have an understanding of what we are selling and having the support system of game companies is priceless. This would give us a baseline to be able to sell your games more often as it tends to make customers more comfortable buying from someone who is confident in the product and the support behind it.

I support Jesse in his venture and believe in his vision completely. His project will allow store owners, specifically myself, the ability to further your product through our store. This will benefit you, the stores, and the customer base. I cannot say I can put a high enough value on this service and urge you to consider bringing this project to life. Every game store would benefit from this. Every owner would benefit from this. Every publisher would benefit from this. Every customer would benefit from this. The community would benefit from this.

    Thank you for your time

  • I’m Kathleen Donahue, the owner of Labyrinth Games & Puzzles in Washington, DC. Our store opened in 2010 and grosses over $2.5 million a year. Hobby board game sales make up about 40% of our total annual sales.

I’m writing because Jesse asked what I would like from publishers regarding marketing support. Jesse is an extremely talented photographer and videographer. He fell in love with board gaming at my store, and we frequently discuss our businesses, the importance of friendly local game stores to the hobby, and marketing. I also regularly talk about these topics with other retailers, distributors, and publishers.

Having professional product photos and videos that we could use on our web store and for social media marketing would be amazing. I frequently hear the same request from other retailers too. We have two TVs in our store and regularly run product advertising on them when we are not using them for events. We also have a web store and an active social media presence. Media assets are one of the most difficult things for us to find. Frequently we are unable to find good pictures of products and are unsure about our rights to use them. When we take the pictures ourselves, they are never as good as Jesse’s. We are also posting more videos to Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, and having professionally made short videos of people happily playing the games would be incredibly useful. I hope you will consider his proposal, and I look forward to hopefully having an easier time promoting and selling your products.

    Best regards,

    Kathleen Donahue

  • Good evening Jesse,

As we discussed, retailers like myself would love to have a one-stop source of informational videos and/or commercials for tabletop games. We continuously seek videos from publishers on their websites and YouTube to add to our in-store commercial list to incentivize or educate customers to make a purchase (or future purchase) of games featured. We have had success with promotional videos that display, discuss, and show gamers playing. That creates a sense of fun and excitement that encourages sales. Videos that do well generally are between 30-60 seconds with excellent editing and showcase the product in an exciting way. Retailers have asked publishers for years to create these videos, with the ability for stores to be able to drop in their logos, and many publishers are unable to hire an entire team for one game, especially if those videographers are unfamiliar with tabletop games and how best to present them. I believe Quackalope could bridge that gap with their knowledge, experience, earnestness, and ability to communicate why a particular game should be purchased immediately.

Please let me know what I can do to discuss this potential project of working with various publishers as I believe it's a much needed necessity for our industry.

    Warmest Regards,

    Andrew Phillips

Where we began . . .

This is a short documentary I did on my local game store, where I found and fell in love with this Hobby. I still remember walking into an open game night talking about the idea of Quackalope . . . I had no idea what it would actually become.

Touring the Country. . .

As the world has opened up we have begun exploring the local stores and communities throughout the cities we have travel to. This is where the initiative took form . . . by talking to owners, employees, and customers across the country.

What we do best . . .

At the end of the day it comes down to the content we produce.

The Quackalope Retail Program is a project designed to bring both retail owners and publishers commercial quality multimedia content. The goal is to help them share new games, build a stronger social media presence, and direct customers to games they will enjoy. Our aim is to produce and send out weekly media packages around new and established board games, completely free of charge and without copyright restrictions. These packages, along with the guidance from the Quackalope team, will provide local stores everything they need to advertise new games and grow their community. Most small business are unable to employ a dedicated content creator or media manager - we hope to fulfill that need. Many of the games we cover will be contracted by publishers we hand select for the program. This model will allow the Quackalope team to hire and maintain a retail manager and a dedicated videographer, while providing free content to our local retail stores.

FAQs

  • Quackalope is one of the leading Youtube channels in the board game space. With 40,000 Subscribers & 350,000 views a month we have built an amazing community in just 3 years. The founder and owner Jesse Anderson has a history in commercial videography and photography. We pride ourselves on our constant strive to innovate and push the limits of media in the tabletop space.

  • I don’t believe most retail stores can hire or support a dedicated multimedia producer or manager. I also don’t believe most publishers have the margins to keep someone on staff for full time content creation. So instead, I am developing a hybrid. I am charging publishers to produce the media they need on a month to month or game by game basis - this will allow us to support and grow our team while providing free content to retail stores across the country. At the end of the day, your engagement and use of the content we make is more valuable than your dollar.

  • We will have a series of videos, document, and simple instruction guides to help you use the content we produce. We will also have a full time retail manager allowing us to answer specific questions you might have and continue to develop our program so it is as thorough and simple to use as possible. The goal is accessibility - everything we make will be with that purpose in mind.

  • We hope to expand this program to include multiple publishers across the industry, giving you the widest range of media content possible. We also hope to visit, host events, and film content on the retail stores who invest in us the most. Eventually, I plan to send out physical media like posters, stickers, merchandise, rubber ducks, and so much more. Ultimately, we want to customize this service to fit your needs. So get involved and help us make something you can use!
